Why an On-Site Spay/Neuter Clinic Is Essential

Without our own surgical suite, we are forced to rely on external veterinary clinics, which means:

• Long wait times — sometimes weeks — delaying adoptions and keeping animals in the shelter longer
• Frequent transportation to off-site clinics, increasing stress and risk for animals while consuming significant staff time
• Rapidly rising veterinary costs, even at “discount” clinics that have been forced to increase prices several times a year

These challenges directly impact how many animals we can help, and how quickly we can help them.

Once we have stabilized our internal needs, we plan to open the clinic to offer low-cost spay/neuter surgeries to the public!

We are NOT planning to build an addition onto the shelter – we will retro-fit our existing Exam Room with the equipment and ventilation needed to create a state-of-the-art surgical suite.

Spay/neuter services are one of our largest and fastest-growing expenses.
In 2024 alone, Berea ARF spent more than $107,000 on sterilization surgeries.

By bringing these procedures in-house, we can dramatically reduce costs, shorten shelter stays, and increase the number of lives saved each year.

We are raising $150,000 to retrofit our existing exam room into a fully equipped, state-of-the-art Spay/Neuter Clinic. Berea ARF receives no federal, state, or local funding, so community support is essential.

Your contribution will help us acquire:

• Construction and retrofitting
• Surgical table and lighting
• Anesthesia machine and ventilation
• Patient warm-up unit
• Monitoring equipment
• Sterilization and sanitizing suite
• Intravenous (IV) poles
• Surgical instruments and supplies
• Emergency electrical backup unit
