Happy Endings
Greetings and Happy Holidays to everyone. My name is Heather Chakan and I adopted Andy in the spring of 2006. We have since changed his name to Scooby and he is doing great. He has grown a bit and he has gained weight. He loves the mornings and late nights. In the morning he goes and wakes up the kids by giving them kisses and then he goes back to sleep. In the late nights he and I curl up on the sofa and I read while he lays on my lap. We have found that he loves to run. He only barks when we are playing or when he hears something funny outside. I could not have been chosen by a better dog. He has brought many many happy days to the house, even though he ate all my shoes. He is the best dog we could ever ask for. Thank you for letting him choose us for his new home. He even gets to go visit Grandma Connie and her Boxer Rocky. They are he best of friends. I have attached 5 pictures of Scooby for you to look at. One day I would love for him to come visit you wonderful people just to say hi. Thank you for this get chance for giving him a home.
One year ago, my boyfriend and I made the decision to try the foster program with the Berea Animal Rescue. On a Friday evening, we brought Axle home, who is now appropriately named Attis (Greek for handsome boy). The weekend started off a little rough because our diva of the house, Macie, wasn't sure she wanted to share her space. As the weekend progressed, we caught them playing together and somewhat enjoying each other's company. By Monday, we had all but fallen in love with him and made the decision to give him a home.
Attis and Macie are inseparable now. They balance each other perfectly. Macie is the independent queen and Attis is the snuggler that has to be touching you or following you every minute of the day. They attend doggie daycare twice a week at K-9 Kingdom in Richmond Heights, love taking walks and naps and Attis makes us laugh on a daily basis. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect fit into our family.
Many thanks to the Berea Animal Rescue for helping us find the perfect match. Karla & Jeremiah Lakewood, Ohio
Hello to everyone at Berea Animal Rescue!
I wanted to give you a follow-up to my kitty “sons”, Miles Davis (formerly “BeBe”) and Maxwell Edison (“Milo II”). I adopted Miles back in May of 2006, the same day he was put up for adoption. When Muddy gave birth to the kittens at Linda Borowiak’s house, I fell in love. Miles, along with the other kittens, helped to fill the hole in my heart when my 12 year old cat Slimey passed in April, 2006. I couldn’t wait to officially take him home. I actually had put a collar with the name “Miles D.” on him the week before he was adopted because I was so excited!
In about January of 2007, Ross (Linda’s son) and I knew that we’d be moving and that Miles would need a playmate to keep him company in the new home. Lucky for us, Linda was fostering an eight-or-so month old kitten named Milo who had a cold that he couldn’t kick. After staying with Linda for a while, we learned that it wasn’t actually a cold, it’s just that Max is “ultra nasal” and always sneezing! It was like fate that we met! We had to beg, but Linda let us adopt him and let him stay with her until we moved in April.
Since then, Ross and I have fallen in love with Maxwell and Miles. They wait for us by the door every night and wrestle with one another for entertainment. The way they run around the house, you’d think they were only six months old! I catch Miles giving Max kitty kisses when they think we’re not looking. They’re everything we could ever want in a pair of cats. I just wish I could fit more of your animals into my little condo! Thank you so much for introducing us to our babies!

Hi Deb! Benni and I would like to send you our happy greetings, and let you know she is doing Better than Fine! As a matter of fact, she is practically running the household! At least, she has all of us at her beck and call.(Smile)
First, let me tell you how things have changed since she arrived. Benni changed her name to Hershey(like the candy bar)When she first arrived as you know, she was so shy, she hid under our steps in the basement. We kept getting her out to love and pet and cuddle. While she really liked cuddling, she did not like being brought out before She was ready; so she disappeared. We searched high and low. Finally when I was doing laundry that evening, I noticed her. She was watching me from a small space above the dropped ceiling in one of the basement rafters. It was a very secluded spot, one she could withdraw into and control who was allowed to pet or pick her up. Okay, I thought, we get the message. For about a week, she stayed there when there was activity in the house. When things were quiet, she would come out,do her business in her litter box,eat and drink. When it was sleep time, she would come out and explore.
Gradually, she came out more and more to look around and explore. Then the morning came, she came upstairs during 'go to work' time and asked to have some breakfast with our other kitties, Rocky and Sir Tonissimo Mousecatcher the III. We felt very privileged to be allowed to have breakfast with her, and even pet her at her invitation!Rocky pretty much ignored her, and Sir Tonissimo ever the suave gentleman, gently sniffed her and moved over. Each cat had their own dish and eating area. Each day Hershey grew more assertive, till now she has taken over the main floor as her domain. She especially enjoys intimidating our Border Collie,Sami.
Sami thinks cats are sheep that need her protection. Hershey is an independent woman who needs no bodyguard, and gave Sami some lessons in "Kat-rate".Now Sami remains completely still when Hershey walks by, and even allows her to walk right over her nose without moving so Hershey can come to me and let me pet her. It is truly an amazing change from that shy little girl who first came home with us.!!
We still are very careful not to frighten her or move too quickly when approaching her, but overall, Hershey has really come out of her shell. She likes to sit in the front window and watch the outdoors, and when our car pulls in she runs to the back door to see who is here, and are they going to give her a little "snack". (She does like to eat...and eat... and eat!)But she is careful to watch her girlish figure, there is Sir Tonissimo to keep on a string. I wish you could have more success stories like our Hershey, and she wants you to know she is A-okay, and
Thanks for all the help you gave her!
Sincerely, Laura and Bob and Hershey
A little over one year ago I adopted Big Red, an Australian cattle dog that had been with the animal rescue going on one year. Since his adoption last September Red has been a great companion and has made himself very comfortable (usually in my recliner) and has lost about 11 pounds chasing squirrels, geese, and deer out of his two acre yard. When he is not chasing animals I can usually count on him making his way to the creek for a quick swim or making friends with the German shepard next door. Red is always happy to see us when we come home from work and is right by my side the rest of the day. Red is the perfect dog for my active lifestyle, keeping up with me on runs and has become quite good at catching soccer and tennis balls. Red has made a great addition to our lives and we are very thankful to Barb for introducing him to us. Thank you so much and keep up the good work! Andy Robinson
